D.C. Youths Score Big At School Scrabble Tourney
Several of the club's youth players turned in great results at the North American School Scrabble Championship held at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on April 9-10, 2016. Stefan Fatsis' D.C. School Scrabble group had the biggest contingent at the tournament—11 of the 85 teams. Including other local players, D.C.-Maryland-Virginia placed five teams in the top 10 and nine in the top 20.
8th-graders Chloe Fatsis and Caleb Anderson of D.C. took 4th place with a 6-1 record and a spread of +637, winning $1,000. Chloe and Caleb were a blank or two from making the one-game finals, and they closed out their School Scrabble careers with four consecutive top 10 finishes at the championship. Among their most impressive bingos: ANTIGAY, VENISONS and MOVIEOLA.
Our other D.C. Scrabble Club members who competed:
6th place: Simon Chervenak and Aidan Cook (Silver Spring), 6-1 +414 8th place: Julius Cohen (D.C) and Harrison Benford (Potomac), 5-2 +489 17th place: Sammy Taubman (D.C.) and Logan Strzepek (Charlottesville), 5-2 +146 32nd: Avey Anderson and Charles Lee (D.C.), 4-3 +136
