3rd Niagara Falls International Open Scrabble® Tournament

Last weekend it was my great privilege and honour to help run the biggest Scrabble® tournament ever held in Canada, presented by Jason Broersma and Sue Tremblay and co-directed by the ever-competent and highly personable Kieran O'Connor. I don't need to tout the details here but I will say that this really was a fantastic event and everyone serious about the game should plan on attending when it comes back around again.

People will be talking about this one for a long time to come. I had a great time but it was a lot of work and I look forward to giving more attention to events in my own back yard in the months to come.

Welcome Adam Fine

At the Ft. Meyer event in April I chatted with Adam Fine about making the switch and when he heard that I was planning on hosting semi-regular events at my place in Gaithersburg (which would be just a few miles down the road from his new home) that was enough to convince him. Please join me in welcoming Adam and let's do what we can to help him get ready for our June 17 event (more on that below).

Catonsville MD 2017-06-03

I will be driving my van to the Catonsville event on Saturday June 3, picking up passengers at the valet parking station outside the Strathmore Music Center (across Tuckerman Lane from the Grosvenor Metro Station parking lot) at 08:45 Saturday morning. I have only two seats left so reserve your place now if you think you might want a ride.

I'm not asking anyone to chip in for gas since Josh and I are going anyway, but if you feel compelled please bring me a bottle of something in lieu of cash.

Gaithersburg MD 2017-06-17

Saturday June 17 will be the first DC Metro CSW tournament at WGVC R&D HQ in Gaithersburg MD, full details on the "perpetual flyer" at DC_CSW_Tournaments. As has been the case for my previous area events, this will be an all-inclusive event, with lunch and snacks, shuttle pickup from the Shady Grove Metro Station, an opt-in winner-take-all prize pool and all the seltzer you can drink, the usual $25 entry fee still in effect.

I will also guarantee that this and future events will feature the largest number of electronic scoreboard pixels per player of any event anywhere in the world, by a margin of several orders of magnitude.

Future Gaithersburg Events

If there are any dates you would prefer for future events, or any that you know you can't make, please let me know and I'll take note. I'm considering doing one in August or possibly Labor Day weekend. I am also open to doing a double header to entice players from out of town who wouldn't otherwise travel for a one-day, which I'd like to structure as multiple one-day events so any locals who can't make both will still be able to get some games. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Going forward I anticipate keeping to roughly a once-per-month schedule, giving September a pass because of the Bethesda event as well as some travel I have planned.

The Nationals

I'll be working at the NASC in New Orleans--hope to see you all there!
